From Line to Life

"From Line to Life" encapsulates a transformative journey where static sketches evolve into dynamic three-dimensional models, ultimately culminating in a rich narrative experience. This project explores the creative process from initial 2D lines on paper—conceptual sketches brimming with ideas and potential—through iterative modelling, fabrication, and assembly, into tangible, multidimensional forms. Each stage reflects a commitment to bringing conceptual visions into reality, blending artistic inspiration with technical skill. By seamlessly weaving form, space, and narrative, "From Line to Life" celebrates the power of design to transcend mediums and breathe life into artistic visions, crafting immersive stories that resonate beyond their structural existence.

Corner Building

Situated in the heart of Wynyard Quarter, Auckland's vibrant waterfront precinct, the D6 building captures the dynamic energy of its surroundings through a blend of commercial and residential spaces. This corner site maximizes its exposure and presence, serving as a landmark within the thriving urban fabric of the area.
Designed with sustainability and contemporary living in mind, the building employs cross-laminated timber (CLT) for its structural framework, minimizing its carbon footprint while offering a modern, warm aesthetic. The façade integrates timber cladding and expansive glass windows, creating a visually engaging interplay between transparency and natural textures. Green walls further enhance the design by introducing eco-friendly elements that enrich the streetscape and contribute to a healthier urban environment.
The lower two levels of the D6 building are dedicated to commercial use, fostering a vibrant and engaging pedestrian experience within Wynyard Quarter’s bustling community. Above, thoughtfully designed double-height residential units provide spacious and light-filled living spaces, maintaining a connection to the natural beauty of Auckland’s waterfront while offering a sense of urban retreat.

Whetu Whānau Wonderland

Whetu Whānau Wonderland is a childcare center in Hamilton, New Zealand, designed to spark creativity, learning, and a connection to nature for young children. The architecture blends large windows, skylights, and a sloped roof, maximizing natural light and integrating seamlessly with the surrounding environment. This creates a bright, dynamic space that enriches daily experiences through ever-changing light patterns and a strong connection to the outdoors.

Situated in Te Rapa, the design respects the area's diverse cultural influences, incorporating elements that reflect Maori and European architectural heritage. Sustainability is central, featuring solar panels, eco-friendly materials, and outdoor play areas that foster both environmental consciousness and active engagement with nature. This center serves as a vibrant community hub, offering flexible spaces for learning and family interaction

Harmony in Light

This church project in Hamilton draws inspiration from Tadao Ando’s "Church of the Light," integrating the interplay of light, form, and spiritual symbolism. Internally, the minimalist layout emphasizes clean lines, high ceilings, and expansive windows that channel natural light, creating an illuminated path that focuses the eye towards the altar and cross. This spatial arrangement invites a sense of peace and contemplation, reflecting Ando’s philosophy of using light as a spiritual and architectural element.
Externally, the structure embraces contemporary elements with a nod to traditional church architecture through the use of concrete and glass. Geometric forms, including a gently sloped roof, merge seamlessly with the modern façade. The surrounding courtyard extends the design's intent by featuring illuminated pathways, serene gardens, and spaces designed for communal gathering and reflection, embodying a holistic architectural experience that blends spiritual, modern, and communal elements.

FOREST OFFICE IN HIGH DENSITY CITY

This innovative project reimagines urban office spaces by creating a "forest-like" environment within a high-density cityscape. Inspired by the film "Chongqing Forest," the design concept emphasizes a dynamic spatial experience with interconnected layers and vertical circulation pathways that evoke the natural complexity of a forest. The addition of multiple staircases serves as connective elements, fostering fluid movement and exploration within the building.
The interior design offers flexible, multi-use spaces, catering to diverse activities and promoting collaboration. By transforming a rigid structure into an evolving, vibrant workspace, the project challenges the norms of conventional open-plan offices, introducing an architectural narrative that harmonizes talent, nature, and interaction within an urban context.

WHAKAMIHA

Whakamiha is a culturally sensitive residential and communal project designed with careful consideration of traditional Maori site use and environmental context. The design draws inspiration from the natural curves of the Rangitaiki River, integrating organic forms that reflect the river’s flow and significance in Maori history. The building is oriented to respect and embrace the surrounding landscape, including Putauaki to the south and the Rangitaiki Awa, providing a view that connects with cultural heritage.
The structure utilizes layered, curvilinear forms that accommodate residential spaces, communal areas, and landscape integration. Its sun path optimization enhances natural lighting throughout, fostering a connection to nature while maintaining energy efficiency. Elevations and floor plans emphasize transparency, community engagement, and a seamless blend with the environment, creating an inclusive and dynamic living space.

HOTUROA: Navigator of Legacies

This project centres around the creation of a hand-drawn storybook inspired by a traditional Māori carving story. Each page is carefully illustrated to convey the depth and cultural significance of the narrative, capturing the essence of Māori storytelling through a blend of artistic techniques and symbolism. The project emphasizes a strong connection to Māori heritage, showcasing intricate visual storytelling that brings the carving's tale to life. It reflects a deep respect for tradition and a creative approach to preserving and sharing cultural stories through art.
